The Dhak is a large two sided drum with a barrel like body made of wood and covered on two ends with hide. It is suspended from the neck, tied to the waist and kept on the lap or the ground, and usually played with wooden sticks. The left side is coated to give it a heavier sound. To play the dhak, one needs a lot of physical strength. Those who play the dhak are called 'Dhakis.'
